England and Wales has 34,284 registered charities working on poverty relief on the current register extract, of which 29,988 reported income in their latest return. Together they reported £25.65bn of income. The median charity took in £38k, while the largest tenth reported £759k or more, so a typical donation goes to a far smaller organisation than the household names at the top of this list.
Income is concentrated: the ten largest charities working on poverty relief account for 16% of the total. Across the whole group, 7,785 charities have a note from the register, such as overdue accounts or three years of spending above income, and those notes are shown on each charity's page.
19,504 of the charities with reported income (65%) took in under £100k a year. Pages for the 20,111 charities with several years of accounts include their full income history, a comparison with similar-sized peers and a breakdown of where the money comes from.
