England and Wales has 4,621 registered charities working on animals on the current register extract, of which 4,073 reported income in their latest return. Together they reported £3.25bn of income. The median charity took in £41k, while the largest tenth reported £660k or more, so a typical donation goes to a far smaller organisation than the household names at the top of this list.
Income is concentrated: the ten largest charities working on animals account for 37% of the total. Across the whole group, 1,142 charities have a note from the register, such as overdue accounts or three years of spending above income, and those notes are shown on each charity's page.
2,750 of the charities with reported income (68%) took in under £100k a year. Pages for the 2,953 charities with several years of accounts include their full income history, a comparison with similar-sized peers and a breakdown of where the money comes from.
