England and Wales has 37,268 registered charities working on religion on the current register extract, of which 32,995 reported income in their latest return. Together they reported £14.37bn of income. The median charity took in £55k, while the largest tenth reported £454k or more, so a typical donation goes to a far smaller organisation than the household names at the top of this list.
Income is concentrated: the ten largest charities working on religion account for 14% of the total. Across the whole group, 7,858 charities have a note from the register, such as overdue accounts or three years of spending above income, and those notes are shown on each charity's page.
20,491 of the charities with reported income (62%) took in under £100k a year. Pages for the 24,564 charities with several years of accounts include their full income history, a comparison with similar-sized peers and a breakdown of where the money comes from.
