Overview

England and Wales has 27,993 registered charities working on health and saving lives on the current register extract, of which 24,651 reported income in their latest return. Together they reported £35.74bn of income. The median charity took in £43k, while the largest tenth reported £1.2m or more, so a typical donation goes to a far smaller organisation than the household names at the top of this list.

Income is concentrated: the ten largest charities working on health and saving lives account for 18% of the total. Across the whole group, 6,678 charities have a note from the register, such as overdue accounts or three years of spending above income, and those notes are shown on each charity's page.

15,511 of the charities with reported income (63%) took in under £100k a year. Pages for the 17,375 charities with several years of accounts include their full income history, a comparison with similar-sized peers and a breakdown of where the money comes from.
