United States has 21,230 registered charities working on armed forces, emergency and public safety on the current register extract, of which 9,128 reported income in their latest return. Together they reported $6.33bn of income. The median charity took in $146k, while the largest tenth reported $834k or more, so a typical donation goes to a far smaller organisation than the household names at the top of this list.

Income is concentrated: the ten largest charities working on armed forces, emergency and public safety account for 26% of the total.
