Overview

United States has 40,888 registered charities working on animals on the current register extract, of which 14,470 reported income in their latest return. Together they reported $14.49bn of income. The median charity took in $131k, while the largest tenth reported $1.2m or more, so a typical donation goes to a far smaller organisation than the household names at the top of this list.

Income is concentrated: the ten largest charities working on animals account for 17% of the total. Across the whole group, 498 charities have a note from the register, such as overdue accounts or three years of spending above income, and those notes are shown on each charity's page.
