United States has 104,893 registered charities working on grant-making and general purposes on the current register extract, of which 19,413 reported income in their latest return. Together they reported $101.13bn of income. The median charity took in $138k, while the largest tenth reported $3.0m or more, so a typical donation goes to a far smaller organisation than the household names at the top of this list.

Income is concentrated: the ten largest charities working on grant-making and general purposes account for 35% of the total.
