Overview

United States has 205,715 registered charities working on religion on the current register extract, of which 31,138 reported income in their latest return. Together they reported $28.36bn of income. The median charity took in $123k, while the largest tenth reported $881k or more, so a typical donation goes to a far smaller organisation than the household names at the top of this list.

Income is concentrated: the ten largest charities working on religion account for 30% of the total. Across the whole group, 1,061 charities have a note from the register, such as overdue accounts or three years of spending above income, and those notes are shown on each charity's page.
